1. What’s the difference between cold brew and iced coffee?
Alright, let’s start with the basics… cold brew and iced coffee are not the same. The main difference between the two is the brewing process! Iced coffee is just hot coffee that’s been refrigerated or poured over ice. Cold brew is made by steeping delicious coarse coffee grounds in cold water for 12-24 hours, and then filtered to perfection. It takes significantly more TLC, but the end result is worth it.
It sure does! When brewed cold, the acidity levels of the coffee grounds are softened which helps bring out natural sweet chocolatey and earthy flavors. Good cold brew is just as full-bodied as hot coffee, without the bitterness. For the record: we’re good cold brew.
3. Is cold brew better for you than regular coffee?
Studies have shown that cold brew is 67% less acidic than your average coffee, which helps keep your body’s pH levels balanced. Perhaps you’re familiar with the hole-in-stomach feeling that accompanies iced coffee? No holes with cold brew. Non-holed stomachs, full energy, can’t lose.
4. Cold brew is extra strong -- Wandering Bear is extra EXTRA strong.
Because of the long steeping process, the coffee-to-water ratio is greater in cold brew than regular coffee, which means the caffeine content is stronger! And because we are caffeine addicts, we’ve figured out how to make our cold brew more caffeinated still (spoiler: we put more coffee in our coffee). As a result, Wandering Bear Extra Strong Cold Brew has 150mg caffeine per serving, more than most other cold brews on the market (seriously, go check or ask Food&Wine Magazine).
5. It promotes happiness.
Not only is cold brew extra delicious, extra strong, and better for your health… but it also can be used to make smoothies, ice cream, cake, and many other variations of dessert. Bears love dessert and cold brew. Cold brew is happiness. This is just science, folks.
