What is cold brew iced coffee?

Cold brew is a type of iced coffee made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for an extended period of time (between 12-24 hours). Traditional iced coffee is made by brewing hot coffee and then pouring it over ice. Unlike traditional iced coffee, the cold brew process eliminates heat and yields a bold, smooth coffee that’s low in acidity (and in our case, it has a rich chocolaty flavor).

What makes Wandering Bear cold brew better?

We love cold brew because the process brings out the big, bold flavors of coffee while leaving behind some of the acids and oils that make traditional iced coffee taste so bitter. Our coffee has everything you love about coffee -- rich chocolate and dark fruit notes, full body, and a surprisingly smooth finish -- without the things you don't, like bitterness or acidity. Because we really like our coffee (can you tell?), we package it in boxes that protect it from oxygen and light, the two factors that make coffee go stale.

Do I need to dilute Wandering Bear cold brew with milk or water?

Great question! Our coffee is ready-to-drink out of the box, so you don't have to mess around with measuring out coffee and water before you've even had your morning coffee. That said, it's your coffee, and it's endlessly customizable: drink it straight black, with milk and sugar, in a smoothie, cocktail or add it to your favorite cold brew recipe.

Do I need to keep my box of Wandering Bear cold?

Keep your brew cold! Even though it’s just coffee and water it needs to stay refrigerated for both safety and flavor. That said, you can absolutely heat up a mug of Wandering Bear if you're in the mood for a hot cup of coffee--though we usually enjoy it cold over ice.

How long does Wandering Bear cold brew last in the fridge?

Each box will stay fresh until the printed expiration date on the bottom of the box (if you can keep yourself from drinking it), whether the box is open or not. Air and light are the twin enemies of coffee -- they’ll make it go stale very quickly. We package our coffee to keep out air and light stay so your coffee stays fresh!

For the "coffee on tap" boxes, the coffee will not go stale, even after you open, because the bag and tap will keep air out.

For our single serve "coffee on the go" boxes, please enjoy within a week after opening.

How much caffeine is in Wandering Bear cold brew?

We're glad you asked: you’re looking at 25mg of caffeine per fluid ounce. That’s about twice as strong as your average cup of coffee, and you can thank us later.

What beans do you use in Wandering Bear cold brew?

We’re currently using a Fair Trade organic certified bean from Peru; we love this coffee and think it gives us the range of flavors that translate best to the cold brew method. The green beans are roasted fresh each week for every batch to capture the richness that makes our coffee so delicious.

Can I recycle the Wandering Bear box?

For the "coffee on tap" boxes, absolutely, and we really hope you do. Just remember to separate the bag from the box!

For our single serve TetraPak boxes, check here to see if carton recycling is available in your area: http://www.recyclecartons.com/

Is Wandering Bear coffee Fair Trade? Organic? Kosher?

Fab question, you clearly know your stuff!

Our coffee on tap boxes are USDA Organic, Fair Trade certified by Fair Trade USA and kosher (Star-K Dairy).

For our coffee on the go boxes, the Straight Black is USDA organic and Fair Trade certified. The Mocha Coconut and Vanilla Coconut flavors are USDA organic certified and use the same Fair Trade certified coffee as our Straight Black (but they do not carry the seal). And while we do use kosher-certified coffee in our products, the on the go boxes are not certified kosher (we're working on it!)
